Is your school moving into a standards-based system, and you are looking for examples in music? Here is an opportunity to discuss the research and practical implementation of standards-based teaching and learning in a K-12 music classroom with an experienced music educator. Our work will include:
- Understanding the standards-based system relative to the music classroom
- Exploring the role and power of feedback and reflection
- Discussing checklists and rubrics for assessment of singing and playing instruments
- Examining standards-based assessments of knowledge such as rhythm or music vocabulary, including tiered assessments
- Recognizing the role of participation in ensemble classes and how reporting on that could look in a standards-based system
- Plan to arrive about 8:15 am to get settled. Lunch is included with registration.
The workshop facilitator is Dr. Wendy Barden, respected Minnesota music educator, national clinician, and published author with the Neil A. Kjos Music Company.
